Ben, you're completely right. It's called a pyramid scheme and what happens is someone recruits you. Then in order to get the points or whatever you have to recruit a certain ammount. It's a cycle and in order for you to climb to the top, either you recruit a shit load of newbies, or you pay your way up. If I read this correctly in one article a few years back... No one wins, just the founder(s) of that group so the recruiters are the ones who get burned. It is indeed illeagal to do and I've heard people either going completely broke or being arrested for doing such a thing.
